Gold Bars are a quick way to earn money in Red Dead Redemption 2. Each gold bar is worth $500, which is a nice chunk of change in the wild west. Since they are so valuable, they are very rare, as you might expect. This guide will show you where to find RDR2's gold bar locations and find out where you can sell them.

First things first, you must complete The Spines of America mission if you want to sell gold bars. This mission unlocks your first fence, the only vendor who will buy valuables like gold bars. Visit the Fence Locations and Unlock Guide to see how and where you can unlock new fence vendors.

  • Be sure to visit the How to Make Money guide for more ways to make cash in RDR2.

Limpany Gold Bar

VisitLimpany, the burned town just south of Horseshoe Overlook. If you haven'tbeen there yet, here it is on the map:

One there, visit this sheriff's building and take an immediate left and walk around the desk. It probably served as a sort of reception desk at one point. Inside the desk is a lock box with a Special Horse Stimulant Pamphlet, along with a gold bar.

While you can get this gold bar and sell it for $500, there's also a known exploit that let's you pick up this single gold bar 30+ times for a boatload of cash. Learn more about that on the Gold Bar Duplication Exploit guide.

Train Wreck Gold Bar

Near Cotorra Springs there is a ravine with a wrecked train lying in the bottom. The upright train car has two gold bars inside. You’ll have to do some tricky cliff side navigation to make it inside the car to score the gold, but we've got you covered.

Climb up to the top of the cliff that the train car is leaning into. You can do this by going around to the right of the train car, climbing up the hill, going underneath the railroad tracks, and circling to the left. Walk toward the edge and you will spot a small path downward on the left. Crouch and go down the slope.

Staying crouched, walk to the right under the overhang. On the other side of the overhang, you will need to slide down to the lip below. Be careful here, or your character may go tumbling down the cliff side. Walk to the end of the path and climb up the rock on the right.

Once on top of the rock, follow the path carefully around. Soon you will hop up onto a tiny lip. Use this lip to mark a starting point to run. Just ahead is a gap that you will need to sprint to jump across. Run toward the gap and press square/X to jump. Slide down the wall to reach the landing below.

You are almost done, as there is just one more gap to cross before reaching the train car, and it’ll be toward the train tracks. On the clearing, across from the gap, is a singular tree. Use the tree as a marker for where to run from. Just like before, run and press square/X to jump across the gap.

When you land, you just need to make a final short run and hop into the train car itself. Down at the bottom are the two gold bars. Additionally, there is another train car painted yellow with other goodies inside it too that is on the ground, if you care to loot it as well.

Treasure Map Rewards

The next easiest place to get gold bars are from Treasure Maps. Visit that page to find out more about each map line and what specific rewards they yield.

The following gold bar location may be a spoiler for some players. If you haven't played past Chapter 4, you may want to return to this gold bar page later.

Braithewaite Manor Gold Bar

This gold bar is only available after you've reached Chapter 4. Head down to Lemoyne's Braithwaite Manor south of Rhodes. Ride toward the main building on the property to begin the hunt for the gold bar.

Enter the charred building and navigate to the room just past the corpse. Face the west wall that puts you back in view of the corpse (as shown below) and you'll find a lock box with the gold bar.

The Strange Statue Puzzle

There is an odd/creepy puzzle in Red Dead Redemption II, which will reward you with three gold bars upon completion! Check out our page detailing the whole secret activity to score the gold!
