How to Find (& Beat) The Cyclops in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey (2024)

The most recent Assassin’s Creed game, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, is set in Greece in 400 BCE. Players will choose to play as a male or female assassin, or misthios, that can employ their deadly skills to assist the people of Greece and battle mythical monsters. This misthios will fight on both sides of the Peloponnesian War and have the option to complete multiple side quests that can add more lore to the story or help the citizens in the area to gain more XP, loot, and items. Through the mythology quests, players can gather pieces of Eden and solve mysteries left by Precursor technology.

While magical monsters are new to the Assassin’s Creed series, the most recent installment explains them away as being normal people who acquired Precursor technology. Now that they’re way past saving, players will need to find and defeat them to get a piece of Eden to open the gates of Atlantis and learn more about the Precursors. There are four of these monsters to defeat: the Cyclops, Medusa, the Minotaur, and the Sphinx.

To fight the Cyclops, players will need to work with cult leader Empedokles and complete his three quests. Then, similar to the Medusa quest, players will need to unlock the area he is located in and fight him. Here’s how to start the quests that will lead the player to the cyclops, and how to beat him. Players should be at least at level 52 before attempting this battle.

The first mission in the questline, A God Among Men, requires players to travel to the Pilgrimage site on Pilgrim Hill, on Kythera Island. Here, a man is preaching near a statue, and another is complaining that their god has been taken prisoner. He is being held in Murex Fort, and the player must use either stealth or brute force to reach his cage and release him. They can then follow him out of the fort and speak briefly with him.

Once the presumed god, Empedokles, is rescued from the Murex Fort, players will get to hear his wonderful speech about his divine origins and his family at his personal statue when Empedokles thanks the assassin for their heroic deeds. He will ask the player to find an important disk, which will inevitably be the key to unlocking the Cyclops’s lair. He claims that this disk is the key to unlocking his family’s estate. The man who stole this disk will be located nearby. After he and his guards have been killed, the player can pick up the disk and the purple robes and return them to Empedokles.

Empedokles will want to take the assassin to meet his family, who all reside on an island near the Gulf of Korinth. This island is called the Island of Thisvi, and the family should be in the Cave of the Forgotten Isle. Players can enter the cave and swim through the water to loot chests. The walls will be glowing in certain places to guide the player. Reach the surface and meet Empedokles by a broken door. He is convinced that the Greek gods, his so-called-family, are waiting behind the door. After speaking with him, the player can use the disk to open the door, and the pair will go through the door.

Once the door is opened, the “godly” Empedokles will be killed by the Cyclops immediately, and the boss battle will start. The Cyclops’s name is really Brontes the Thunderer, and he surely lives up to it. A ranged weapon is recommended for this boss fight, as the Cyclops will move slowly but packs a massive punch. Special arrows like death, poison, or fire arrows will give players a huge advantage over the Cyclops. His glowing eye is his weak point, and with how far it is off the ground, stabbing it with a sword will be a difficult task. Eventually, players will be able to down the giant and attack his eye with a melee weapon. Make sure to have a powerful melee weapon equipped as a secondary weapon. He will also stomp and drop rocks from the ceiling, and send out attack waves, so players should stay behind cover whenever possible. To predict his attacks, he will send out waves while his eye is uncovered and stomp when it’s covered by his arm.

The Cyclops will start the first phase of the battle by simply following the assassin around and swatting at them. When his health is at 50%, the cyclops will get a club and start attacking the player with it. He still moves slowly, so the player has little threat of retaining damage directly from him. His stomping, however, will cause rocks overhead to break loose and fall, and they may hit the player. He will start taking out cover with his club as well, making it more difficult to avoid him when he’s raging.

Once he is down, the assassin can pull out his golden eye. This is a piece of Eden that will come in handy when the player reaches the gates of Atlantis. Brontes will turn back into a regular-sized human. Players will also receive an engraving that allows the player to deal 25% more damage on elite and boss enemies, and the Legendary Heavy Bladed Polyphemos Cyclops Bludgeon. When all four monsters are completed, players will be able to proceed with The Gates of Atlantis questline.
