Associate Professor Mikah Thompson has been appointed Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at the UMKC School of Law. She brings an extraordinary wealth of experience to this position. Her scholarship investigates the role of race and gender in the law and she translates that expertise into community impact through her work leading the Missouri Supreme Court’s Racial and Ethnic Fairness Commission, among other community commitments. , a litigation law firm in Kansas City, made a five-year, $250,000 commitment to the UMKC School of Law’s bar preparation fund. Their gift supports an initiative by the law school to provide a commercial bar preparation program and in-person supplemental course at no additional cost to students.

Every spring, 3L students vote based on the criteria of commitment to students, quality of teaching, ability to inspire, and personal commitment to UMKC School of Law. Family legal issues are one of the largest unmet needs in the state of Missouri and in Jackson County. The UMKC School of Law has helped fill that gap since the opening of its Child and Family Services Clinic in 2000. Since then, the clinic has helped more than 1,000 children be placed in permanent homes.Brittney's family was helped by the clinic, changing their lives in the process.

We're proud to say that our Class of 2023 graduates have a 94.4% employment rate! More than 90% of graduates are employed in jobs that require bar passage or have J.D. advantage. Additionally, UMKC School of Law is above the national average of 2023 graduates employed in full-time, bar passage required or J.D. advantage jobs within 10 months of graduation.
