In Case You Missed It, Here is the replay of my video on WRAL getaway last week. Its a One Day car trip to Asheboro, NC. And, yes, I wore the pink shoes for the interview!

I’ve embedded the video here from my interview and travel segment with my friend Ken Smith on WRAL-TV in Raleigh, NC. I’m in the car and behind the wheel, hop on in and join me for a One Day Getaway to Asheboro and Randolph County. So glad to have you along for this virtual ride.

Be sure to bring your mask so you’ll have it at hand when needed. Hand sanitizer, too. and wipes – just in case. Never hurts to have all of that in your car, right at hand.

Randolph County, home to most of the Heart of North Carolina which includes the towns of Asheboro, Seagrove, Trinity and Ramsueur, just to name a few. I’s a short and pleasant 90 min drive from Raleigh and from Charlotte. too. Head out early, stay for dinner and enjoy the day.

Table Farmhouse Restaurant a fabulous from scratch bakery with crafted coffee and tea lattes, and lots of local. Offering limited indoor seating as well as and socially distanced outdoor seating on the wrap around patio.

Visit and shop studios in Seagrove NC – Known as the pottery capital of the US. Nearly 100 pottery studios and shops. Drive from studio to studio, meet the craftsmen, watch them work. Great place to shop.

Millstone Creek Apple Orchard, Ramseur, NC – Pick your own peaches through August, then get ready to pick your own apples.

Come anytime for peaches, apple slushies and baked goods. Once apple picking season begins, it will be by reservation only – get the details here. You’ll find everything is in bloom and it feels great to be outside! Millstone Creek is a local you-pick orchard in Ramseur NC, just outside of Asheboro. DON’T MISS THE APPLE SLUSHIES. On Saturdays stop by to shop at the local farmers market on the porch of the apple barn.

Ziplining – Looking for a bit more adventure? Take to the skies, or at least to the tree tops at Kersey Valley Zipline in Archdale NC

For family fun, head to the NC Zoo, the largest natural habitat zoo in the world!! Open Monday – Friday 9-5; Limited number of guests each day. Guests need to make a reservation to come to visit at least 24 hours in advance. advance ticket purchases only for a timed entry admission. Masks are required for adults and kids over 11 years old.

For now, your visit to the NC Zoo is now a totally outdoor experience. Many of the indoor habitats and dining options still closed; but things change every day. Many habitats are slowing reopening for the public. In fact the butterfly garden just reopened.

Antiquing – stroll the streets of downtown Asheboro lots of vintage shops, antique and collectable shops in the area – fun to browse through the aisles, you’ll never know what great find awaits

Four Saints Brewing, Asheville’s first craft brewery. Now, in addition to serving their own locally brewed beers, Four Saints has partnered with Faye’s Dinner Food truck for fabulous food and beer pairings. Wowzer!

Drink up the summer at Zimmerman Vineyards. Sit, sip and relax and check out the new releases at this local North Carolina winery. Plan your visit for the weekend and enjoy the outdoor music offerings as well.

Carriage House Teas in downtown Asheboro – Lots of loose and bagged teas from the exotic to the sublime. In addition to the tinned tea and everything you need to correctly brew your own, you’ll find hand crafted gifts and local art in the rooms at Carriage House, located at 170 Worth Ave. in Asheboro.

As we end this one day WRAL getaway, stop for dinner before you head back home .

Magnolia 23 – outdoor seating and curbside service with limited indoor service. Located at 23 S Fayetteville Street, it is here you will find fried chicken, catfish, Memphis-style ribs and some of the finest chicken and dumplings in the region, served with fresh baked corn bread, of course. Don’t miss the persimmon pudding.

The Flying Pig – A fun stop for great pizza and a delicious array of cheese cakes, too! Great place to stop if you just want to pick up a pizza to go and enjoy it “dining on the dash” on the way home. 208 Sunset Ave, Asheboro, NC. Call 336-610-3737
